During the soccer World Cup some changes in the satellite listings do appear. ARD and ZDF have taken off their German services from Eutelsat Hotbird at 13° East. ARD's prime channel "Das Erste" is being temporarly replaced by an information slide saying that the channel is not broadcasting via Hotbird during the World Cup.

The ZDF is using the transponder frequency to transmit the entertainment channel "zdf_neo" which is better than no German programme at all.

FreeSat was the "satellite event of the year" all over the UK and in Europe. TV viewers everywhere are waiting for the launch of additional channels which are announced to reach a number of 80 in spring this year. Well, by now spring gets closer and serious activity can not be recognized so far. People discussing in online forums are making their guesses about the start date, which channels might be included in the package and wheter there might be a progress in the EPG service. Well, BB24 already had the junior version "freesat-a-lite" in stock. That means we can provide hardware which would enable your tv to receive channels like BBC 1..BBC4, ITV 1..4, Sky News or Film Four already now! What you need is our satellite dish with a digital receiver and some cabling. As soon as the official FreeSat starts you will only have to re-run a transponder scan to get further channels into your digitalbox's list. Already now you will have sub-titling to most of the programs shown.

Champions live on stream

The all German Champions League final will be on TVs around the world. But sometimes you have just no access to a tv set or you may be just out of signal while in an office or other work place. So there is a chance that you have a computer nearby. And when lucky enough there also is an internet connection available.

In this case you can use one of the media streams provided by the tv broadcasters. For viewers in Germany the coverage is provided by the channel ZDF. Just install  VLC player on your computer and you can open this network stream:

As you can imagine: this live stream is only available to users located in Germany. Though the stream quality during daytime is OK, it might be possible that during football transmissions the server is stressed. A huge number of viewers bringing down bandwidth and picture quality as this angry report describes.

But the ZDF is free to air on satellite tv. When your dish is pointed to either satellite Astra 1 at 19° East or Eutelsat Hotbird at 13° East you can watch that final match all over Europe on proper tv (German commentary).

Seit Dezember 2013 sind weitere Deutsche Sender im HD-Format auf den Satelliten. Es erfolgte die Aufschaltung von MDR HD (3 Regionalfenster), RBB HD (2 Regionalfenster) und HR HD. Weiterhin ausgenommen bleiben Saarländischer Rundfunk und BR alpha.

Mit der Inbetriebnahme der neuen Sender hat es einige Verschiebungen der Sendefrequenzen geben. Tagesschau24 HD, EinsPlus HD und EinsFestival HD senden über Astra 19.2° Ost auf 11.052 GHz, H, SR 22000, FEC 2/3. Die neuen HD-Regionalprogramme empfängt man auf 10.891 GHz, H, 22000, 2/3.
